M-Day, 2008

Went pretty damn good.
Had Rich's family over for a BBQ. It was a lot of work, but I really enjoy doing it (every once in a while). I wish I had taken pics of the table setting. Nothing too grand, but I had some goodie bags for the moms (2 SILs and a MIL). They really tried to include me in the whole Mother's Day thing, even though I am not a mom. They brought gifts for each other, and my MIL and FIL brought me something too. MIL said it was a hostess gift, and FIL told me that he knew I wasn't a mom yet, but would be. So sweet. I am very lucky.
The goodie bags for the Moms included:

  • a pair of earrings,
  • an anklet for the SILs, and a reed diffuser for the MIL,
  • a nailpolish,
  • a nail file,
  • a purse-sized Glysomed,
  • and Lindt chocolates.
It was fun. I made a Pavlova for dessert and I wasn't sure if it would go over well, but everyone (except for Rich, because he doesn't eat dessert unless its 90% chocolate) loved it! I think it could have been better, because my meringue wasn't as fluffy as it could have been, but, next time. I am TOTALLY making that again. I will make it my signature dessert. You can totally mix it up too, putting anything on top off/between meringue layers. I meant to get a shot of it, but it got eaten too quickly.

If there is anything that I don't like about hosting, its running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Although, yesterday's menu was pretty easy. It was:
  • BBQ chicken and ribs (boiled and sauced the night before, so all we had to do was grill them to get them good and sticky and hot inside)
  • Corn on the cob
  • Cherry tomato, bocconcini and chick pea salad (made the night before)
  • Rolls
  • and for dessert, the Pavlova
I usually go ape-shit and make waaaay too much food, but last night, there was the perfect amount. All the ribs and chicken got eaten, but I did have to send the SILs home with some salad. Shit... I didn't give any to the MIL. I wonder why it didn't occur to me. I think because the SILs were raving about it. Ah well.

I didn't really get too down about the whole mother's-day-and-not-a-mother thing. I just hope to hell that I am a mom by next mothers day.

I wonder who will host the Father's day dinner. It won't be me. I only do one big dinner a year. Last year it was Thanksgiving, this year, Mother's Day.
